GENDER

Helen M. Hacker's most celebrated and influential research has been her pioneering work in the sociology of gender. Two articles, in particular, “Women as a Minority Group” and “The New Burdens of Masculinity” have been cited over 600 times by leading scholars in the field. In addition, this section includes important follow-up articles which update her ideas and respond to twenty years of new research and development. The introductory essay will explore the analytical power of Professor Hacker’s concept of minority groups, as well as her groundbreaking theories of masculinity that have shaped the field of gender and masculinity studies.
